Environmental Education Centre

Who We Are

Echo Pond Environmental Education Centre (previously the “Brother Brennan Centre”) is a non-profit charitable organization located in the heart of the boreal forest on the island of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) on the Avalon Peninsula.

We are dedicated to helping children and young people connect with and learn about the natural environment through our fun and immersive school programs (school program section) and summer camps (summer camp section). We also offer weekend workshops (workshop section) for adults and have our facility available for rental groups.

Located on a 12-acre site in the Avalon Forest Ecoregion, the old growth boreal forest and wetlands are home to a wide variety of wildlife, including snowshoe hares, foxes, beavers, loons and eagles and as well an extraordinary diversity of plants, lichens and mushrooms.

With 8 kilometers of hiking trails and access to a network of canoe routes, the site is an ideal place for everything from epic outdoor adventures, to summertime swims, to tranquil evenings of stargazing by the pond.

Our mission and vision

Echo Pond Environmental Education Centre strives to help children connect with the natural environment so that they will learn to love it and want to protect it.
